Transitional Kindergarten
4 YRS. - 4.5 YRS.
The Transitional Kindergarten at Neighborhood Christian Preschool is guided by the school’s motto of “Hugs, Hurdles, and Happy Hearts.” In this class we use the Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum. This program provides a hands-on approach to learning through visual, tactile, auditory, and kinesthetic activities. Our students have the opportunity to learn at various classroom centers, such as math and science, art, writing, library, blocks, and dramatic play. In addition to this, it is the mission of our teachers to ensure that all of our students know they are loved by Jesus. They do this through scripture reading and prayer.
In Transitional Kindergarten we strive for the students to be independent in an environment where they feel supported and loved. They are encouraged to help each other to problem-solve, fostering social skills and teamwork. While the teacher is always there to assist, the students will start to build stronger relationships with each other through their endeavors and begin sharing their ideas more openly. This fosters social skills and teamwork.
To help the children learn to self regulate, our teachers provide a “cool down spot” in the classroom. These special areas serve to be a safe space when the children are having big emotions. They can work through these emotions with the guidance and love of their teacher.
A typical day in Transitional Kindergarten will start with outdoor time. After that, the students will make their way into the classroom for prayers and worship. We strive to keep God at the center of our learning. We transition into our group time learning and morning snack. When they are finished eating, children are given time for activities that tie into the morning’s lesson. Once the children have cleaned up from their activity, they will have outdoor play time. When they come back inside it’s time to get ready for lunch. After lunch children have free play, where they can choose what toys to play with, centers to explore, and friends to work with. We have afternoon snack and enjoy some more outdoor time.
The teachers in our Transitional Kindergarten consider the students to be a part of their family. They want to ensure that the students feel loved, nurtured, and supported in their learning. They ensure to maintain open and regular communication with families to keep parents and caregivers informed and involved.
In order to join our Transitional Kindergarten Program your child must be potty-trained.
